Mission of the Math Majors

Mathematics plays a pervasive role in today's world. With a broad spectrum of applications ranging from biology, physics, engineering to finance and social studies, it is established that Mathematics is crucial to effective communication, critical thinking, and decision-making. The study of Mathematics exposes the students to the methods and philosophies of quantitative analysis and plays a central role in any liberal education curriculum.

The primary mission of the undergraduate mathematics program at the University of Arkansas is to provide mathematics majors with:

• a solid understanding and an appreciation of a wide diversity of topics in Mathematics.

• the skills to use such understanding in order to produce and communicate mathematics.

• a preparation for mathematically oriented careers in advanced degree programs, in industry, government, and education.
