- The Distinguished Doctoral Fellowship provides $20,000 per year in addition to the assistantship stipend, for up to 4 years. The award requires no assistantship duties for the first year. An applicant who has a gpa of 3.8, a general GRE Verbal + Quantitative of 1300 and a GRE writing score of 5.5 will automatically be considered for this award.
- The Doctoral Academy Fellowship provides $10,000 annually in addition to the assistantship stipend, for up to 4 years. The award halves the assistantship duties for the first year. An applicant who has an undergraduate gpa of at least 3.5 or a graduate gpa of 3.65, a general GRE Verbal + Quantitative of 1200 and a GRE writing score of 5.0 will automatically be considered for this award.
- From a fund bequeathed by Dr. Lillian Massie Reed, in honor of her father, John C. Massie, the department awards Massie Fellowships each summer to PhD candidates working on their dissertation. A limited number of such awards are made based on nominations from the faculty.
