Advising
The Fulbright College advising center (http://fcac.uark.edu/) is one of the most crucial resources for Math Majors.
The academic advisor is one of the most important connections students have at the University of Arkansas. This is a person who cares about the student's educational experience and helps them to make good academic decisions throughout college.
What an academic advisor does:
- helps students understand the meaning and relevance of the college experience
- assists students in developing an educational plan based on their interests, abilities and needs
- interprets University policies, procedures and requirements
- refers students to appropriate resources
- addresses students' academic questions and concerns
- adheres to the highest principles of ethical behavior
- guides students in their selection of courses
What students do:
- take responsibility for educational experience
- maintain contact with advisor throughout the semester
- assess their interests, abilities and needs and discuss these with their advisor
- clarify their educational and personal goals
- use the Catalog of Studies and other resources to become knowledgeable of academic requirements, policies and procedures
- know important dates (registration, drop/add, final exams, etc) as listed on the Semester Calendar
- discuss their selection of courses with my advisor
- meet regularly with their advisor to discuss their academic progress
- arrive for appointments on time and prepared (Write down questions!)
