Support Your Department
One of the most rewarding things about being chair is really getting to know, in detail, what an energetic and active department we have, with over one hundred-fifty majors, fifty graduate students, about a dozen instructors and two dozen faculty. We have a rich research life, working with colleagues and students from around the world. Our service mission touches nearly every student on campus— and through our training of future teachers, students across the state. In my time as chair, I’ve seen the passion our faculty bring to this endeavor, the high quality of our students, and the support and encouragement of friends and alumni.
Such support is essential for our ongoing success. With your help, we have been able to offer a record number of scholarships to our majors and graduate students. Alumni and friends have made possible the refurbishment of our common areas and helped us keep in better touch, with our new newsletter.
We are excited about our new training for teaching assistants: we can now provide language coaching for our foreign graduate students and workshops and teaching training for all our future TA’s. And we’ve been able to reach out into the community, providing tutoring and teaching experience for our majors and supporting our student organizations’ fun math activities across campus. Your donations have helped bring in nationally recognized public lecturers sharing mathematical ideas throughout the community.
We are especially proud of all our alumni over the years— you will always be part of our mathematical family here in the department and your ongoing support means everything.
